Download a Field Computer Software Update

Note:  The following procedure is for example purposes only. Any images provided in this section may not accurately depict the web browser or prompts encountered on various home or office computer systems. Please refer to computer or web browser user help for additional assistance.

Software updates for Raven field computers will be made available periodically from the Raven portal website: https://portal.ravenprecision.com

Note:  CAN node firmware is included with the ROS software download and will automatically download to the ROS device. However, node updates will not be installed until the user installs the update. The node updates in the ROS update will be the latest version of ROS release and may not be the latest version available.

To download field computer updates:

  1. On a home or office computer, visit https://portal.ravenprecision.com.

  2. Select Documentation & Software.

  3. Select Field Computers along the left side of the page.

  4. Select desired device (Viper® 4 & Viper® 4+ or CR7™ & CR12™).

  5. Select the Software drop-down specific to your machine.

  6. Select the desired software update.

  7. Select Save As from the drop-down menu.

  8. Select Save to save the software to the computer. Select a commonly used download directory or a destination which will be easy to locate after the download completes.

    Note:  It may be necessary to accept security or warning prompts displayed by the browser or computer system to successfully save the software update to the computer.

  9. Insert a USB flash drive used with the Raven field computer into an available USB port on the computer.

    Note:  Ensure the USB flash drive has a folder titled “Raven” with another folder inside the Raven folder titled “Updates” so the file path is as follows: USB-Drive-Name > Raven > Updates

  10. Copy the software update zip file (*.zip) from the download location to Updates folder in the USB flash drive.

  11. See and follow the installation instructions included with the download.

    Note:  Raven field computers allow the user to download updates directly to the device via Slingshot®. Refer to Download an Update via Slingshot® for more information.
