Update Hardware
Raven field computers can apply updates to other devices and hardware that are connected to the field computer.
Update ISO Node and GPS Hardware in CRX
To check for ISO Node or GPS updates via Slingshot®:
- Select Settings on the bottom left of the Home screen. The Settings Menu will open.
- Select Software Update on the Settings menu. The Update window will open.
- Select the Hardware tab.
- During the device start-up sequence, CRX will download available software if the device is connected to Slingshot®. The available software will be listed on the Hardware Update window. To learn more information about the current version, select the information icon. To see if there is a newer version, compare the Current Version (installed version) to the Latest Version.
- To install the update, select anywhere on the device cell except the information icon. A Versions Available drop-down will open below the list of Device Cells.
- Select the desired version from the Versions Available drop-down.
- Select Start Update. The update will install.
- If desired, select the About tab to view information about the CRX including the software version, when the software version was installed, Run Hours, and Total Run Hours. If desired, select Erase Data to reset the system and erase all data stored on the CRX. This includes all implements, Grower Farm Field data, and settings on the CRX.
- Select Accept to save the displayed settings and return to the Settings menu.
View Hardware Version Information in ROS
To view firmware information for the system components currently connected to the ROS device:
- Select the Administrator Panel icon in the top left corner of the display.
- Select the Hardware Update tab.
The following firmware version information will be available for each node currently detected on the CANbus:
NodeThe node name or identification information will be displayed in this column.
Program NumberThe program number is used to identify the node on ROS.
Note: The program number displayed on the hardware update tab does not reflect the program identified on the physical serial number tag affixed to the node from the factory.
Current VersionThe firmware currently installed on the node will be displayed in this column.
Newest VersionIf node firmware updates have been transferred to the ROS device, the update version will be displayed in this area.
Install CANbus or ISObus Firmware Updates in ROS
Note: The node firmware can be transferred from the USB flash drive onto the ROS device before the firmware updates can be applied to nodes connected to the system using the System Manager utility. Refer to Import CAN Node Updates for assistance copying CAN Node Update files.
To apply a firmware update to a CANbus system component:
-
Insert the USB flash drive with the firmware update files into the ROS device.
Note: Refer to Download a Field Computer Software Update for more information on the folder structure required for performing the update.
-
Use the USB Manager utility within the File Manager to import the CAN node updates. Refer to ROS File Manager Overview for additional assistance using the USB Manager.
- Select the Hardware Update tab.
-
Select a specific node to be updated.
Note: Note the program number (PGM #) for the node selected. In case of problems with the node update, this number will be required to select the appropriate program number for recovering the node. Refer to Node Recover Mode in ROS or contact a local Raven dealer for additional assistance.
-
Select the appropriate update from the Versions Available list for the selected node.
-
Select the Apply Update button to update the firmware on the selected node. The ROS device will install the selected firmware update. Repeat the process to update any other nodes as necessary or required.
Note: If a problem is encountered during the firmware update process, refer to the Raven CANbus Installation Manual for information on troubleshooting the node and use the recovery mode to attempt to restore the CANbus node. Refer to Node Recover Mode in ROS for additional information on using the recovery mode with a Raven CANbus system.
Node Recover Mode in ROS
Note: The node program number is required to properly recover the node. If the program number is unknown, contact a local Raven dealer or the Raven Technical Support Center for additional assistance with appropriate program numbers for recovering a CANbus node.
To attempt to recover a CANbus node on which a failed update has occurred:
-
Insert the USB flash drive with the firmware update files in the required folder into the ROS device.
Note: Review Download a Field Computer Software Update for more information on the folder structure required for performing the update.
-
Use the USB Manager utility within the File Manager to import the CAN node updates. Refer to ROS File Manager Overview for additional assistance using the USB Manager.
-
Disconnect the rectangular connectors OR the Logic fuse on the node for approximately five seconds to cycle power to the node. If the node has any LEDs, ensure they are off or stop flashing before reconnecting the node.
-
On the ROS device, select the version field and use the scrolling list to select the appropriate node program to reset the node. The node program and version numbers will be displayed in the following format:
-
Select the Apply Update button to attempt to recover the node. If the node recovery fails, or for additional support, contact a local Raven dealer.
