Install the RTB Fleet Tracker

The RTB device is designed to be installed on a non-powered implement such as a toolbar, tank, trailer, etc. and comes ready to use with 4 Energizer® L91 AA Primary Lithium batteries installed.

Note:  It is recommended to use Energizer® L91 AA or equivalent batteries with the RTB device. Alkaline and rechargeable AA batteries are not recommended.

  • The device must be securely mounted and attached to the implement/equipment. The device should not be loose or able to move independent of implement movement.
  • Mount the device with the check in button easily accessible.

Check-in

There are two methods to force an RTB device to check in:

Press the Check-in Button

Press the button on the front face of the device to force the RTB to check in to the Slingshot® fleet tracking portal.

Note:  The device will ignore additional button presses for five minutes.

Replace a Battery

The RTB will also connect to the Slingshot® fleet tracking portal when power is removed and restored. Temporarily removing a battery is an alternate way to force the device to check in.

Replace Batteries

Note:  Review the battery recommendations in the “Powering the Device” section. Do not overtighten screws as damage to the housing may occur.

  1. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove the 4 corner screws and set them aside.

  2. Lift the top cover straight up and set the cover aside.

  3. Remove the old batteries and dispose of them properly.

Note:  Use only new batteries. It is recommended to replace all 4 batteries at the same time. See local rules and regulations for proper disposal of used batteries.

  4. Install new batteries, noting the proper orientation and polarity marked within each battery slot.
  5. Observe the state of the LED and ensure the device reconnects with the Slingshot® portal. Refer to the Status LED section.

  6. Reinstall the top cover of the RTB utilizing the screws previously removed. It is recommended to install the screws in an “X” pattern to ensure a proper seal and even pressure on each corner.

Note:  Lightly tighten screws or damage to the housing may occur. Recommended torque is 5 in-lbs. [0.56 N-m].

Status LED

The RTB includes an LED within the enclosure. Use the LED to monitor the device status as it connects to the Slingshot® fleet tracing portal.

  • Slow blink - Cellular module is starting up after batteries are installed.
  • Fast blink (longer off time) - Cellular module is active and searching for a cellular network.
  • Fast blink (longer on time) - Cellular module is connected to a cellular network.
  • Solid - LED illuminate for about 2 seconds after the device successfully connects with the Slingshot® fleet tracking portal.
  • Off - Upon successful connection, the LED will turn off until the batteries are replaced.

Note:  If any of the above steps fail, the LED will blink rapidly for about 2 seconds. The LED will then turn off until the batteries are replaced.
